Drove from Albemarle, NC and got in at around 3PM, planning to go to the fair on Saturday. Since we got in so early, we decided to go to the fair Friday evening. This fair is only open from 5PM to 10PM on weekdays. We got there and were directed to the best, free parking ever for a State Fair, literally steps from the entry gate. That was unfortunately the best part about the TN Fair though. It was very small, not a huge choice of our favorite fair foods, and almost no equine exhibits for Lisa. We did get to see rabbits, sheep, poultry, and cows. We saw a horse and pack mule demonstration. This was the first state fair we attended in the twilight/evening hours, this is definitely not our style. The crowds are too rowdy and young. Overall, underwhelmed by this fair. As it turns out, the last-minute change of plans to go Friday night was a good thing, because Saturday was a complete rain-out. We were able to meet up with Dan Needham (a childhood friend and well-known musician) for lunch, drove around downtown, then walked around the Grand Ole Opry and Opry Mills Mall.
