Technically this is the Washington County Fair, but comes up as the RI State Fair when you Bing it so we’re going to count it. The locals stated that this was the state fair as well. Coming from the Vermont State Fair, we overnighted in Preston CT near two big casinos. The fair had really nice facilities, with neatly painted cottages for many vendor booths. The exhibit barns were immaculate and all the exhibits were displayed creatively and were themed. You could tell a lot of effort was made to set these up. Seemed to be a lot more vendors here than other recent fairs. The animal barns were also much neater than other fairs. The rabbits were living well in shiny stainless steel cages, although this made it hard to see ones that were not at eye-level. Lisa was disappointed that there were no horses anywhere, although from the schedule we suspect that the dairy will be moved out and horses moved in later in the week. There was an extensive old tractor exhibit in the full range of restoration conditions. We got to see some yarn spinning up close to understand how that works. We went for a second Dough Boy, but this one was not well drained, so it was greasy on the middle. Lisa also left with a bag of cotton candy. We are getting quite efficient at covering these, with less food stops and other delays, plus getting there before the crowds.
