This is the earliest state fair on the calendar. We arrived on Thursday night to an accidentally canceled hotel room. The front desk eventually sorted that out for us. The fair was easily in the top 3 so far. The fairgrounds were immaculate, and had a lot of non-midway attractions that held our interest. There was a 'Cracker Village' that was a collection of approximately 15 buildings that were moved here from various parts of the state to depict a pre-1900s community. It was very interesting and the volunteer staff was quite interactive and always stayed in character. We saw a Sea Lion show, and parts of the Bear show and K9 show. There was a very well-preserved collection of working old-time steam engines. Lots of livestock, although I think we missed much of the equine stuff that happened earlier in the week. There was a very complete petting zoo with Giraffes, a Kangaroo, Alpacas, Llamas, and other small animals. The Florida wildlife display was also interesting, with a some bobcats, a giant turtle, and other live specimens. Finally, there was a 'Mooternity Ward' where a live cow was on stage giving birth, which was a creepy yet interesting exhibit.
